Sabahan designer to Showcase Sustainable Collection at Borneo Fashion Week 2025

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah-born stylist and sustainable fashion designer, Saerah R. Kunjan will present her latest collection, RE:BORN/EO, at Borneo Fashion Week 2025 in Kuala Lumpur.

The collection, featuring 15 looks, will be unveiled on October 11 at Pavilion Damansara Heights. It combines upcycled denim and reclaimed garments with cultural elements from Borneo, highlighting both environmental awareness and heritage preservation.

“RE:BORN/EO is my love letter to Borneo and to the possibilities of conscious design.

“Each piece carries a story of renewal, giving discarded fabrics a second life while honouring the craftsmanship of my heritage,” she said.

The collection incorporates linangkit embroidery from Sabah, Rungus and Dayak weaving, traditional hand embroidery, and natural details such as dalai seeds and siling embellishments.

Saerah also reworks some of her earlier pieces, offering them new interpretations through updated detailing.

Known for her neo-indigenous aesthetic, Saerah’s work emphasizes sustainability and cultural storytelling.

Over the years, she has collaborated with Malaysian artists including Marsha Milan, Alena Murang, Bella Astillah, and Velvet Aduk.

“Sustainability isn’t a trend, it’s a responsibility.

“When I design, I think about what we leave behind, and what we choose to carry forward,” she added.

RE:BORN/EO is among the most anticipated showcases at this year’s Borneo Fashion Week, which is expected to draw designers, artists, and audiences from across the region.
